Seriously, So Blessed

After my whining post, I figured I'd better type up all the wonderful things that are going on. Have you heard of the Seriously, So Blessed blog, that makes fun of all the blogging Mormon moms? As I thought of all the things I wanted to say I thought of this blog, because I really am so blessed and have the awesomest life ever and have I mentioned that I have the cutest kids in the entire world and the best, most incredible husband?! Well... its true!

Hannah is doing really well with potty training. She hasn't had an accident in nearly 2 weeks during the day, including nap time! I put Hannah in diapers the first two nights of potty training and knew that for her we just needed to do panties 100% of the time. So in the morning I just expect to be changing the bed and giving her a bath. But she has woken up dry occasionally, in fact the last 2 mornings! She is also great about telling us when she needs to go, even when we are in the middle of playing... and especially at stores. (She thinks its fun, so we seem to go a lot at stores! Which makes everything take so much longer!) I've learned two things that really help and motivate Hannah, both with moving into a big bed and with potty training. First, it helps to prep her, to talk about things for a while and get her excited about them. Second, when she sees her friends and cousins, whom she sees as her peers--even if they are older than her, doing it (going in the potty or sleeping in a big bed) she knows she can do it too and wants to. I've been so proud of her and her progress! She even says, "I'm proud of me!"

We've been telling her how big she is now that she is using the potty and she has said, "I can go to school now!" She know she has to be "big" to go to school... and well, she's big now! My mom asked her what school she was going to and she said, "the kid school!" We've told her she has to be a bit bigger, but she hasn't given up yet, she keeps asking to go to school.

She also keeps talking about being baptized. She'll just randomly bring it up. The other day when she brought it up when some friends were over, my friend asked her if she had just seen someone get baptized. Hannah replied, "yes." When asked who, Hannah said, "Jesus." Also one day she said she was going to get baptized with John. I asked who John was and she replied, "John the Baptist!" I explained that Daddy would baptize her. We've talked about how, so she'll randomly talk about how she is going to "go down the water" and "Daddy help me." Also when she talks about her age, she will add, "when I 8, I get baptized!"

Here's a few other things she's said lately:
We often go to the ball and dance with our princes. Hannah uses one of her dolls as a prince and Bryson is my prince. One afternoon when Bry woke up from his nap, Hannah heard him crying and said, "There's our prince."

One of the songs she likes me to sing to her is You Are My Sunshine. After the first verse she'll always say, "Sing, make the boy cry" referring to the second verse. The song doesn't even mention that it is a boy.

In the bathtub, "I make bubbles out of my bum!"

Hannah says that her and I have "too much hair" as opposed to Dad and Bryson who don't have very much.

She often wants to "do our blog" and pretend to type at the computer.

She sure drives me crazy, but she often makes me smile and laugh. Hannah is also a wonderful big sister. In this picture she had climbed up on my bed, where Bryson was, laid down by him, and gave him a hug.
Bryson is at such a fun stage. He is very smiley and will often laugh and laugh! Nic is great at making him giggle. Whenever I grab the camera to try to capture his laughter, he stops. One of these days, though, I'll post it.

He is also being a great sleeper! He usually goes down at 7:30 or 8:00 and will wake up between 5:00 and 7:30 the next morning. If he wakes up at 5, he'll go right back to sleep after being fed.

He's been a good little buddy for me too. He's gone on our last two YW activites with me. I've been pumping and we keep trying to give him a bottle, but so far haven't had any success. So although it would be nice for him to stay home with Nic, he has been a great little trooper.
See I really am the luckiest in the whole entire world!

all by myself

My cute, little, sweet Hannah is driving me CRAZY! She wants to do everything... I mean, EVERYTHING, by herself! I turn on the water for her to wash her hands and she whines, "I want to do it by myself!" I turn off the light, "all by myself." I help her get down from her chair, "all by myself!" Whine, whine, whine!

Then there is the listening... or lack thereof! Ahhh! She is a very independent spirit and it really is one of the things I love about her, but my, oh my
my patience is wearing very thin!

Hotdog Boats

I have heard of "Hotdog Boats" for years now and finally made them last night. Take hotdogs, slice them long ways and cook them in a frying pan. Make garlic mashed potatoes. On a pan, top the open hot dogs with potatoes and shredded cheese. Bake until cheese is melted. I know, RANDOM! Who ever heard of hotdogs and mashed potatoes together?! Nic and his siblings had them growing up. His mom must have made them up. She must have been a very creative woman... and had leftover mashed potatoes and hotdogs in the fridge?! So there you have it... HOTDOG BOATS!

Cute Kids

We went to Portrait Innovations today to get pictures taken of our cute kids. Hannah will say to me, "We're your cute kids, huh!" Yep, and here they are:

It was a great experience overall. Hannah was very shy at first. It took awhile for her to warm up and start smiling. The photographers were great to work with her. We got a good grin out of her when we had her tell them what she was allowed to put in her nose... "toes!" Bry was quiet smiley at the beginning. They couldn't believe he was such a smiler at just 2 1/2 months.

We didn't buy all of these pictures, but received a CD for home use, such as this. Don't we have cute kids?!

Grandparents

This past month Nic and I have been talking a lot about our wonderful grandparents: how we need to take advantage of our time with them, make more effort to be with them, and how the time can slip away so quickly. Both have our maternal grandparents are still around and have been quite healthy. They are such an important part of our lives. We love them deeply. Things may change very quickly and they may be gone before we know it.

About a week and a half ago we had a great grandparents day. Alecia, Nic's sister, called to say her and another sister, Ashley, were going to visit Granny. They invited us along. Hannah, Bryson and I met them at Granny and Grandpa Park's house (Nic's grandparents). I loved watching them interact with our children. Hannah was quite content at the beginning of the visit just to sit in Granny's lap in the rocking chair. When Grandpa came in, he was excited to see us all there and picked up Ashley's little boy, Lincoln. As he did so he said, "Oh grab, he's a heavy little wart!" We all giggled as Grandpa tried to make Lincoln smile. Bryson was sleeping in his car seat and when I finally got him out, Granny rushed right over and snatched him up. She held him the remainder of the time.

Granny usually visits us about once a week. We love her visits. She saves coupons for me out of her Sunday paper. I'm so glad she has an excuse to come up and visit. Sometimes her visits are just a few minutes while other times she'll stay for quite a long time reading books to Hannah.

To continue our grandparents day, we went to my grandparent's house for family night. We had called the night before so they were expecting us. Grandpa asked if there was anything specific we had wanted to do like play Rook. I told him I didn't think the kids would let us get much of a game in. So Grandpa pulled out a sticky note and a file and said he had some things prepared. He had us start with an opening song (I played one hand... well, one finger on the piano) and we had an opening prayer. Then Grandpa told us a wonderful story (more about his prisoner friend posted about previously... quite a miracle) and then we read three other stories/poems. All the stories related to things in their lives. Grandma held Bryson the majority of the time, smiling, cooing, and bouncing him. Bryson ended up screaming quite uncontrollably so our visit, unfortunately, came to an abrupt end. I was once again amazed at the lives of these two wonderful individuals I get to call my grandparents. They are constantly teaching and giving.

On Sunday we were privileged to have both sets of our maternal grandparents at Bryson's baby blessing. They continue to support and love us so much. Grandpa Baird was able to be in the circle to bless Bryson as he received part of Grandpa's name, Baird. Nic mentioned in the blessing how dear that name is to my heart and he hopes Bryson will know of its legacy. I was grateful to have our grandparents over to the house for the little luncheon. It was fun to see them interact together. Both of our grandpas worked at Geneva Steele and "knew" of each other. They had realized this 2 years ago at Hannah's one year birthday party, but re-realized it on Sunday! After quite some time of chatting, Grandpa finally says, "Oh, Lyle Park! I remember you!"

Grandpa Baird went into the hospital late Monday night. He was in the ICU and has since been moved to the trauma unit. How quickly things can change! How grateful I am for our grandparents, for their love, support, and constant example.

Blessing Day

What a wonderful day, one to go down in our family history. Today was Bryson's blessing day. As a mother, today is one of the happiest days. First, I was able to see/hear my husband give a wonderful blessing. How grateful I am to have a husband to holds and honors the priesthood. Then I was able to hear blessing bestowed on my beautiful son.

Bryson usually sleeps during church, so his little schedule was all messed up from the moment we walked into church and he was getting so much attention. He started to fuss as church started and began to scream during the opening song. I didn't take him out, knowing his blessing would be right away. He continued to scream during the opening prayer, so I took him out into the foyer when the bishop got up to make some announcements. Then it was our turn, we made quite the grand entrance, walking in as everyone watched and waited and Bry was screaming. I handed Bryson to Nic. Still screaming, my grandpa, our dads, brothers, and bishop gathered in the circle and Nic began the blessing... and Bryson stopped. He was silent. He must have been listening, paying attention to the blessing he was receiving and feeling the power of the men standing around him. When the blessing concluded and Nic returned to our bench. Bryson began to cry once again. I took him out and it took him a long time to settle down. It was amazing to me that he stopped his screaming just for the blessing.

We stayed to the rest of our church meetings (Bry continued to be fussy) and then hosted a luncheon with family at our home afterwards. We served Hawaiian haystacks (with everyone's contributions). It turned out wonderful. We received so much support and love from our family. I loved having them all in our home. Isn't family wonderful. They are such a strength to me.

The day turned out wonderful. I am so grateful to have our little Bryson and to have the opportunity to be his mother.

(Obviously he wasn't too happy during picture time, but isn't he handsome!)
