Hannah's New Red Hot Bike

Hannah is helping with this post. Here is what she wants to say,

Hannah: I ride my bike today.
Me: What do you want to tell people about your bike.
H: I have a new bike. I want to show Daddy my new bike.
M: What does your bike look like?
H: It looks like a squeezy horn, and its red, and I don't know.
M: What else about your bike?
H: That's all, I think?
M: Tell us something about riding it.
H: I feld off. I went to the mail with my mom on that red bike. Um, and, I had fun riding.
(And I don't want to write that anymore.)

Hannah had a primary activity today and while she was gone Bry and I went to a couple garage sales. I found a cute (but old) red little bike for $5. It has training wheels on it already. I thought it was perfect! She'll probably only use this little bike for one summer, so I didn't want it to be pink... Bryson will need to use it too. (She can get a girly one for when she'll ride it longer.)One of the funnest things about the bike is this fun horn! The tires still need to be pumped up but we went on a stroll around the block. Hannah needed a few pushes to keep going and fell a few times, but she did great. Here she goes:

Super Why... and What, Who & How...

Hannah enjoys watching the cartoon Super Why. Well, I think we've got our own little Super Why on our hands... and a Super What, Who and How! Another favorite show is Sid the Science Kid. Sid says something like this at the end of every show, "And remember keep asking lots of questions." She has definitely taken his advise to heart!Hannah is constantly asking questions about how things work, why she has to do things (of course), who, what.... questions, questions, questions! She has a very inquisitive mind and she loves to learn. I try to facilitate learning whenever possible, because she gobbles it right up. Lately we have been working on reading and rhyming.

My sister Lisa (Lisa Bisa) is a rhymer! She is always coming up with silly words and sayings that rhyme. On Hannah's recent weekend at Grandma's, my mom said, "Lisa, I think you've met your match!" She told me later, "Hannah is a rhyming manic!" Rhyming is a literary skill, but I am so surprised she picked it up so quickly. We've also been working on reading. Hannah has known several sight words for quite a while now (such as the, and, in). I have a couple books, like Fat Cat, that work on a word family ("-at" words). Hannah was telling my mom about how she was reading these books and my mom gave Hannah a set of books (in a fun little back pack) to take home with her and work on. Mom said she needed to read each book at least 7 times then she could return them and get some more. These books worked on the short "a" sound. Hannah has loved reading them. And again has picked them up very quickly. There are days where we make absolutely no progress, where she is just being silly and I don't have the patience. But there are other days she'll sit down and read them all on her own. We just returned the first set and are now working on the short "i". (Hannah reading to her cousin Graysen.)

Here's a little video of Hannah reading from about a month ago (2/10/10).

Hannah has also learned the days of the week and we are working on writing letters (that "s" is a hard one). She soaks things up. I am grateful for her love of learning and love watching her grow so much.

Look what I'm teaching Hannah...

Such a smart girl (Tee Hee) She asked me what she should write and I helped her with the spelling of "best". Hey, gotta teach 'em while they're young!

4th Article of Faith

We have worked on the 4th Article of Faith for months now (not always consistently). Hannah has mostly had it for a long time... but would often get a little mixed up or forget a word or two... until we learned the song! Now she's got it! Phew! On to #5!

Our litttle walker

Its amazing how all I could blog about is updates on my kids and I'd have plenty to say! They are learning and growing so quickly! Bryson is tottaling around! (Tottaling... is that a word!?) He starting taking a step or two around Christmas time and now he's really getting a hang of it. He still needs something to hold onto in order to stand up. So once he's down he'll keep on zooming by crawling.
Bryson is also love'n the stairs! It makes me worried. He'll get distracted and turn around, then I'm just sure he'll fall. But he's doing really well. We still need to work on going down!
