My Dad

My sister, Ashley, did a post like this on her blog. So I am totally copying her! But it was so fun and I want to brag about our dad too!

My dad is an amazing singer. Growing up we were always able to attend recitals and musicals that he was in. These are very fond memories and continue to be. Dad recently achieved one of his dreams. He made it into the Mormon Tabernacle Choir! The process has taken nearly a year, with audition tapes, live auditions, long-complicated written tests, then when he finally 'made it'... he still needed to be in the Choral, or "training choir" for a few months which included homework and written final. He was able to sing in two of the sessions of the last Conference. You can now all watch for him in Conference and in Music and the Spoken Word!
Some of the other things you can listen to and watch for him, Art Allen, in are:
The Forgotten Carols CD by Michael McLean (the 10th anniversary version). Dad sings the very first song, Let Him In. This was done several years ago, but its one of my very favorites so I had to include it. I love music to The Forgotten Carols and especially this song. But I have to say no one else does it as good as Dad!

The Singles 2nd Ward movie. It just came out on DVD around Christmas time. He played the dad to Kirby. You might not recognized him though. He dyed his hair brown for the movie.

Dad has also done the reading of some fun books on tape... or CD. The Wednesday Letters by Jason F. Wright. And a series called The Great and Terrible by Chris Stewart. He has done 3 of the books and is working on the 4th now. All of these books are very good! I would definitely recommend them. They are especially fun to listen to with my dad telling the stories. Dad's also done the voicing for some Deseret Book commercials. Listen for him!

Way to go Dad! We love you and are proud of you. We love bragging about you and calling you ours! Thanks for sharing your talents and always helping us with ours.

Natalie, thanks so much to you and Ashley for putting these nice things about your "dear old dad" into your blogs. I just posted a fuller comment to Ashley's blog, but I'll also add a bit here...

Choir is AWESOME, challenging, rewarding, and spiritually uplifting. I'm so glad I get to be a part. It is wonderful to be called and set apart as a "musical missionary" for the Church and for our Savior.

My reading of The Wednesday Letters just won Benjamin Franklin Award for "Best Audio Book - Adult Fiction" at the recent Independent Book Publishers Association convention in LA. Fun huh!

Sure love ya!
