A Mom Who Knows

People keep asking me how it is with 3 kiddos. So far, so good I say... however, we haven't ventured too many places yet and when we do Easton is usually fast asleep. I am a bit worried about when kindergarten starts and we have to actually get up, have a routine, and be ready to go in the mornings! Eeek! With that being said though here were two outing experiences:

1. First trip to the grocery store: Hannah is good to walk, but if she does then Bry wants to walk too... he is NOT good to walk. So I got one of those gigantic, heavy car carts for Hannah and Bryson to both sit in and put the car seat with Easton in it in the back... Those carts do not a bottom rack, so in other words, there was absolutely NO room for food! Um, so much for grocery shopping!

2. So today we went to Seagull Book. I needed to get some YW things and I was looking for some things for FHE and family scriptures study... This store does not have carts... one of those gigantic, heavy car carts would have actually been great! I am carrying Easton around in his car seat... while Bryson is running a muck! He is pulling things off shelves, climbing on/in bookshelves and merely running away! Then of course Easton starts screaming... When I can I set Easton down and hold Bry, but when going to check out I have an armful of books and no extra arms... so off Bry goes. Well, this kind woman walks into the store with her teenage daughter and immediately sees the scene we are creating. She kindly asks if she can help. At first I start to refuse then submit to the situation and ask if she would take my pile of books up the the counter for me. I then have an arm for Easton and a hand for Bry. We check out, I'm rocking screaming Easton with my foot, holding Bryson in one arm and trying to pay with the other. The lady comes back up to the front counter, says they would help us out to our car too, picks up Easton's car seat and rocks him. I take the bags and Bry, with Hannah in toe and the kind woman brings out Easton. She tells me she has 6 kids of her own and know what its like... she proceeds to tell me about a son who used to run away and go straight to the shoe department in every store. She was a saint, not judgmental or overbearing, just a patient, helpful mother who knows. (I then fed Easton in the car before venturing to the grocery store... phew!)

Oh, I'm so glad someone who knows was nice and helped you out. It's hard to be the one with crazy kids and wonder if you'll make it home in one piece!

It gets easier - and you also find time to go quickly without kids. I usually don't like to shop at night, but if it means no kids I'll do it every time!! :) Good Luck Friend!!

That's when I used my front carrier the most. Everywhere we went I had the baby on me and the two year old on a leash or umbrella stroller. That way I could still use both hands if I really had to (with the leash on my elbow). It was the only way we left the house. The first few times with a leash is hard, just take a walk around the block. He'll learn quick it's either the leash or the stroller. And I've learned to find time "after hours" to run those little errands to the odd stores because they take only a few seconds alone, and an hour with kids. You quickly learn what you can do without. You'll figure it out and it does get better, I promise! I still look back when I had baby #3 and think that was physically the hardest time. You'll make it.

Natalie, this sounds just like my life! The other day Jessica smashed the bread, chewed on a cheese stick, pulled the bar code off of something else, and tried to get out of the cart about a hundred times. She can weasel out of that seat belt every time. The boy bagging the groceries was seriously laughing. I don't think the checker found the gooey cheese stick as funny. I'm sure they will ban us from Macey's soon :)
