Dance Show

January 30th, 2010

Hannah had her first ever "recital." Do I have a kid old enough for that?! Okay, maybe not a recital, we called it her "dance show." Hannah just finished up her dance class. Her teacher is going to be having a baby soon, so dance didn't last all year. Of course, the culminating event was a performance.

We wanted to invite Hannah's grandparents and told them it would be fun... and entertaining... BUT... don't be expecting any fancy moves and steps! Hannah's been in a "creative" dance class, which is just about moving and jumping! I think it has been a perfect way to introduce children to movement and dance. She's loved going and has really opened up and blossomed compared to the start of the class.

The recital was at
The Peteetneet Academy in Payson where both my Grandpa Baird and even my Great-Grandma Baird attended school. Grandma and Grandpa Baird were able to attend with my parents, which was extra special. Grandpa told us stories of how his mother used to ride her horse there, tie it up, wait outside (because the doors were locked), then get in line and march into class when the door was opened. Although such a simple thing, it was so fun to have the support of Nic's parents, my parents and my grandparents. I hope Hannah felt loved!Hannah did a great job. The performance of these 3 year olds was certainly entertaining! Each class did a little warm up for us to see some of the techniques they had learned and then each performed one dance. Hannah's class "danced" to a song while their teacher, Miss Melanie, read a poem to help guide them and prompt them. The poem was called "Things That Go." They were airplanes, cars, even kangaroos. At one point they used a riding toy (that each family provided, like a toy car). Hannah's was put in the wrong spot... on the other side of the stage. I was so worried that she would be all messed up, but she did great! She still rode it to her spot on the stage. Phew!

She did a lot of bouncing, while moving her arms up and down. She even stopped and smiled and waved to me! Unfortunately we couldn't use a flash during the performance... and I don't have a great camera as it is, so I don't have a decent picture. It is time to invest in a video camera too!

I loved watching her and the smile on her face. What a fun little girl. We are proud of you Hannah!

Yea Hannah! So fun. Dad told me about this and it sounded like he really enjoyed it. It does sound like a super great dance/movement class for beginners.
