"If you are still in the process of raisingchildren, be aware that thetiny fingerprintsthat show up on almost every newly cleaned surface, thetoys scattered about the house, the piles and piles of laundryto be tackled will disappearall too soonand that you will - to your surprise -miss them profoundly." ~President Thomas S. Monson
Today I made an ABC mat. It took much longer than I hoped it would, but am quite pleased with it. I got the idea awhile back from my friend who did something similar (yes, you Rach). I used a plastic shower curtain and wrote all the abc's in lowercase letters. I thought this would be a fun, active way to learn and practice. I will say, "What letter says 'nnnn'?" and Hannah will then jump to the 'n.' Or Hannah will say, "y" as she jumps on the 'y.' We played with it for family night tonight and made it a race. I hope to use it for a long time (if it doesn't rip before then) and use it to practice spelling words, etc.Hannah loves to play "school" and begs to play each day. We showed Nic tonight how she's been working on tracing; straight lines are much better :) (We still need to work on how to hold a pen... any tips?) She is quite the little "learner." We are proud of her and her ever expanding mind!
We haven't played with that mat for a long time. I guess I hadn't thought that Jenna might be ready for it!
Ethan used to hold his crayons/pencils that way. Then one day he changed. I think when he started writing letters, the fist hold was no longer functional.
Good Job Hannah - I loved the shower curtain idea - Of course Rachael is so creative - but you would have thought of it too - I'm sure. Did you write on it with permanent markers?
Okay, that shower curtain idea is fantastic. I wonder if Stefani would do better with her letters if I did that. Are you ready to make another one? j/k
As for holding the pen, I have no tips. Stefani holds it better than any of my other kids did at her age. I think they will just get it one day. I know I didn't teach Stefani.
