The Train Cake

Happy Birthday to our big Hannah who turned 4 on Saturday! Just after her 3rd birthday (where she had a princess castle cake) she announced that for her 4th birthday she wanted a train cake... Okay, we'll see, I thought. I was sure that by the time her birthday actually came around she would change her mind. After all, a train cake?! It really was so random. Hannah doesn't have toy trains. She watched Dinosaur Train (a PBS cartoon) occasionally, but that's about it.

Well, her wish for a train cake persisted and she added having chocolate ice cream. When anyone would ask what Hannah wanted for her birthday, she would say, "A train cake and chocolate ice cream!" So the adventure of making a train cake began:
Boy it was a lot of work, took a lot of time, and made a huge mess in the process! But I also really enjoyed creating it. Hannah thought it was really fun and I felt like it turned out pretty good. TaDa!

That looks great! I love making cakes like that, but it seems like there's always tons of cake leftover. Looks like Hannah loved it too.

That was one awesome looking cake and it tasted great too. Way to go Nat! All of Hannah's cake dreams came true!

I think you did an awesome job. I tried making a baseball diamond cake for Micah's 2nd b-day, yeah, not so good. I just don't have your talent.

That cake is cute! I will call you when it is my kids birthday. Hannah looks so HAPPY to have her cake. I remember asking her months ago what she wanted for her birthday and it was a train cake and a big ball. Glad it turned out so well.
